  Two solid days of work. Five new landscape beds created from scratch, multiple plants and shrubs installed, new trees planted, and a dry creek bed built to make smart use of an easement area. That's a lot of ground covered - and every piece of it was planned and executed with the end result in mind. The beds we built out back use pine straw mulch paired with boulders and decorative rock to give each area its own character. The dry creek bed in particular is a great example of turning a tricky spot - an easement that most people just ignore - into something that actually looks intentional and adds to the overall layout. River rock and large anchor stones give it a natural, finished feel. Out front is a different story entirely. Fresh black mulch, clean bed lines, and a mix of trees and shrubs that give the foundation planting some real structure. A Japanese maple is already a standout piece. The contrast of that deep black mulch against the brick is hard to beat - it just pops. What we love about jobs like this is the variety. Each bed had its own purpose and its own personality. Some needed pine straw and boulders. Some needed rich black mulch and ornamental trees. Getting the right material in the right place is what separates a yard that looks thrown together from one that looks designed. Plants, mulch, rock, trees - it all works together when the plan is solid from the start. These beds are clean right now, but they're also built to grow. In a season or two, everything fills in and the yard starts to look like it's been there for years.

We built three new landscape beds from scratch and planted privacy trees throughout. The goal was to give this family a yard that felt finished and intentional - not just a big open lawn with a deck sitting in the middle of it. As the trees fill in over the next few seasons, that privacy along the back fence is going to be a serious upgrade. The finishing touch was the oversized river rock. We used it to fill the landscape beds in place of mulch, and it does a few things really well. It keeps weeds down, it doesn't need to be replaced every year, and it gives the whole yard a clean, sharp look that holds up without a lot of ongoing maintenance. For a family that wants to spend time enjoying their backyard - not maintaining it - that matters. One area we paid close attention to was the space under the elevated deck. That kind of dead zone under a structure is easy to overlook, but it's one of those spots that can look messy fast if it isn't addressed. We brought the river rock right up through that area and used it to anchor the privacy trees planted along the deck posts, tying the whole lower level together with the rest of the yard. River rock is one of those materials that just works in a lot of different settings. It handles drainage well, it's durable, and it looks polished without being high-effort. In Florence, we extended an existing patio with a large stamped concrete surface that curves out from the house in a clean arc. In Union, we tackled a sloped yard that needed a proper step system to connect the elevated deck down to the lower yard. The Florence patio is the kind of project where the details matter a lot. The stamped pattern mimics large-format stone tile, and the dark charcoal color gives the whole space a sharp, finished look. That curved edge is not an afterthought - it takes real care to get a smooth, consistent arc that follows the house without looking forced. We topped it off with decorative rock along the border to ground the patio edge and keep mulch and soil where they belong. The Union job was a different animal. Steep slope, elevated deck, and no real way to safely get from the deck down to the yard. We cut in a natural stone step system running the length of the slope and flanked the whole run with white decorative rock. It handles the grade change while also giving the hillside a clean, finished look instead of bare dirt and erosion. Young ornamental grasses were planted along the base to fill in over time and soften the edge between the rock and fresh mulch beds. What ties both projects together is that neither one is just cosmetic. The patio extension adds real usable square footage for outdoor living. The step system solves a safety and access problem that was probably frustrating every single time someone wanted to get down to the yard. At night, it's a completely different level. The uplighting hits the home's facade and the wall just right, and the path fixtures along the pavers keep everything visible and well-defined after dark. The paver pattern ties everything together and gives the space a clean, finished feel that holds up for the long haul. We also handled the full landscape installation around the perimeter. Fresh plantings, dark mulch beds along the house, a creek bed with decorative rock for drainage and visual interest, and a row of trees and evergreens along the back property line for privacy. That back row is going to fill in nicely over time and really separate the yard from the neighbors. Then there's the lighting. This is one of those things that a lot of people don't think about until they see it done right.   Full Landscape Redesign and Install in Hebron KY

  This was a full rip-out and redesign for the Lonneman family in Hebron. Everything came out - old plants, old beds, all of it. We started completely fresh and built a new landscape plan that was designed specifically to complement the new driveway and stamped concrete walkway that was going in at the same time. When hardscape and landscape are planned together, the end result just looks intentional. That's exactly what we were going for here. The front beds got a clean, sweeping edge line with fresh dark mulch packed in tight. We planted a mix of columnar evergreens, boxwoods, ornamental grasses, and a young ornamental tree to give the beds some variety without making them feel cluttered. Large natural boulders were placed throughout the front to add visual weight and break up the flat plane of the mulch. It's a simple move that makes a big difference. Along the side of the house, we carried the same black mulch and planted a row of arborvitae that will eventually screen the back fence line and HVAC equipment. We also tucked in a decorative rock border running alongside the stamped walkway - the river rock edge creates a natural transition between the hardscape and the planting beds. Little details like that are what make a landscape feel finished instead of just functional. We also want to give a shout-out to the other tradespeople involved on this job. Good work happens when good contractors work together, and this one was a great example of that. The Lonnemans trusted us with the full vision, and we don't take that lightly.   Landscape Lighting, Retaining Walls, Mulch and More - A Big Week of Work

  Some weeks you touch every corner of the trade. This was one of them. Lighting, mulch, retaining walls, tear-out and reinstall work, maintenance - we knocked it all out across multiple properties and the results speak for themselves. Here's a look at what went into it. The lighting setups are some of our favorite work to show off. There's something about a well-placed fixture that completely changes how a yard feels after dark. Uplighting trees, pathway bollards, and step lighting along a curved retaining wall near a pool - when it's done right, the whole space feels intentional. Not just bright. Warm and layered. On another property, we tackled a hillside bed with pine straw and got landscape lighting dialed in along a planting row. Pine straw is a go-to for slopes because it locks in place and keeps moisture where the roots need it. Pair that with strategic lighting and what was just a hillside during the day becomes a real focal point at night. The mulch installs across a couple of brick-front homes show how much fresh black mulch can do for curb appeal. Clean bed lines, boulders used as natural anchors, and new plantings tucked in - it's the kind of refresh that makes a home look like it's been well cared for. We also worked on a retaining wall and pergola area that's in-progress, with block pillars and a curved seat wall that'll be a solid backyard feature when it's wrapped up. And a decorative river rock bed out front on another property rounds things out - low maintenance, clean, and sharp. This is the kind of week we love.   Custom Paver Patio with Fire Pit and Lit Walls in Union KY

  This Union, KY backyard had a lot of potential - it just needed someone to pull it all together. The family had worked with us before, so they trusted us to go big on this one. And we did. What we ended up with is a full outdoor living setup that works day and night, rain or shine. The paver patio itself is split into two distinct zones. Under the covered structure, you've got a large dining area laid with oversized slate-tone pavers - clean, solid, and easy to maintain. Further out, a herringbone-pattern brick paver circle surrounds a built-in gas fire pit with lava rock media. The contrast between the two paver styles isn't accidental - it visually defines each space without needing a wall or a fence to do it. The retaining walls are doing serious work here. They manage the grade change across the yard while also serving as the design anchor for the whole space. We built corner columns with flat cap stones and recessed lighting tucked right underneath - so at dusk, the walls glow warm along the stone face. The staircase leading up from the lower patio level has step lights built into each riser. It looks sharp and it keeps the space safe to navigate after dark. Off to the side, a decorative rock bed surrounds a natural basalt column water feature. The rocks aren't just filler - they tie the organic textures of the stone walls back into the ground-level landscaping and give the water feature a grounded, intentional look. When the water runs at night with the feature light lit, it becomes its own focal point. We're proud of this one. Not just because of how it looks, but because this family kept coming back and trusted us to keep building on their vision. That kind of relationship pushes us to do our best work every single time.

  Full Landscape Overhaul in Union KY with Stone and Black Mulch

  Here's what we were working with before we got started - overgrown shrubs crowding the foundation, a side yard area that was bare and patchy, and a front bed that had clearly run its course. The plants were tired, the layout wasn't doing the property any favors, and there was no real flow or structure to pull things together. It's the kind of yard that just needs a full reset. We started with brush and shrub removal to clear everything out and give us a clean slate. That's actually one of the most important steps - you can't build a good design on top of a mess. Once we had the space cleared, we laid out a new landscape plan that worked with the shape of the property and gave each area a purpose. For the front, we installed a new landscape bed with fresh plantings, a natural stone wall to anchor the space, and a flagstone walkway that guides you from the driveway to the side of the home. The flagstone pieces are set right into fresh black mulch, which creates a sharp contrast and makes every element pop. Black mulch does a lot of heavy lifting in a design like this - it makes the plants stand out, suppresses weeds, and holds moisture well through the warmer months. Around back and along the side of the house, we added new shrubs along the foundation line and finished everything with the same deep black mulch. The result is clean, uniform, and low-maintenance. Every bed has crisp edges, the plantings have room to grow, and the whole property finally looks like it was designed with intention rather than just added onto over the years.   Fresh Sod Install Finishes Off a New Pool Build in Walton KY

  When a new pool goes in, the yard around it usually takes a beating. Excavation, rock, construction traffic - it all adds up. That's exactly what we were dealing with here at the Steimer family's property in Walton, KY. Before we could lay a single piece of sod, we had to regrade the area, haul away the rock left behind from the pool construction, and bring in clean soil to give the grass a healthy foundation to root into. That prep work matters more than most people realize. Sod laid over rough, rocky, or uneven ground won't root properly - and you'll end up with a patchy, uneven lawn that causes headaches down the road. Getting the grade right and the soil quality dialed in is what sets a long-lasting lawn apart from one that struggles. One side of the yard needed a seeded area covered with straw matting to protect it while it establishes. You can see how that section is staged and secured - that's standard best practice for sloped or high-traffic zones where sod isn't the right fit.
